Albescence is a series of non-objective white paintings which explore pure minimalism. Working with pure colour (white) and pure geometric, free-floating forms (squares, rectangles, circles) and exploring their relationship within the pictorial space, the arrangements are simplistic and the paint application provides a visual dimension.
With the layering of white oil paint on linen, white, flat, hovering shapes appear, sometimes overlapping, creating stark, balanced compositions, where the outer edge of the support, often left bare and unpainted, exposing the linen, is of equal importance. The reduced palette connects with the unadulterated geometric shapes, which vary in tonal application and so the viewer must adjust viewing distances.
